Expert guides for today’s and tomorrow’s energy challenges

We’re a passionate and diverse team, dedicated to accelerating the energy transition. We believe a shared understanding of the energy system is key to making better decisions about its future. That’s why we created the open-source Energy Transition Model (ETM) — a powerful tool to help others explore and share future scenarios and uncover meaningful insights.

Building the future, one milestone at a time

2010 — Start of Quintel and first version of the ETM
Future scenario created by Urgenda to support their court case against the Dutch government
First version of the II3050 study: NBNL (Dutch grid operators) creates scenario’s using the ETM
RES’en — ETM becomes available for Dutch municipalities, provinces and RES-regions
Second version of the II3050 study
TVW’s — Studies on heat in the built-environment (‘TVW’) and renewable electricity production (RES) are made in the ETM
TYNDP — Ten Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) is partially created with the ETM
pMIEK — Provincies use the ETM to understand the impact of energy trends on infrastructure (‘pMIEK’)
